The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
