The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six brought the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a new season is now in development.
