Suspect in Ivy League Campus Incident Located Dead Inside Self-Storage Unit.
The individual suspected of being the recent fatal violence at Brown University authorities state committed suicide on Thursday night, according to officials.
He was found at a storage location on Thursday evening, according to information citing an enforcement source. The same individual is also believed of the murder of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor at a home in the Boston area.
“He took his own life tonight,” said the chief of the Providence police department during a press conference.
The police official named the deceased man as Claudio Nevis Valenti, a 48-year-old individual enrolled at Brown University.
This news follows a significant law enforcement presence at a storage facility in Salem, New Hampshire earlier on Thursday. Witnesses reported seeing multiple agents in tactical gear converging on the premises.
The intensive search for the perpetrator had restarted on Monday after state prosecutors revealed that a person of interest on Sunday had been released. This development was acknowledged to be deeply concerning for the local community.
Local officials emphasized that while the release was a setback, the broader investigation continued without interruption.
The young victims who were killed in the shooting have been identified. They are Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama who was active in a campus political group, and MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an international student in his first year who aspired to a neurosurgeon.
Officials are expected to hold a news briefing to provide further details on the suspect's death.
