The deceased of a 34-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter have been located inside freezing appliances in an apartment in western Austria.

The deceased, a woman from Syria and her daughter, who had been unaccounted for for several months, were found on Friday. The freezers were hidden behind a plasterboard wall in the flat, located in the city of Innsbruck.

Two men, a 55-year-old Austrian and his brother aged 53, were arrested in the month of June. The elder brother, a work associate of the female victim, informed law enforcement last week that there had been an unfortunate event—but disputed murder.

Addressing journalists recently, a representative for the legal authorities said the brothers were being kept in custody on "serious suspicion of murder".

The names of those implicated have not been disclosed by law enforcement, in compliance with national regulations.

Their going missing was first reported by the female victim's relative, who lives in Germany, on the 25th of July last year.

Investigators stated the woman's colleague told them at the time she had embarked on an extended trip with her daughter to travel to her relatives in the nation of Turkey.

The mother's debit card was then found to have been used in foreign locations repeatedly.

However when officers entered the victim's residence, her cellphone was discovered.

A witness also reported listening to a disturbing sound in the dwelling, and shouts of "mother" on the day the pair were thought to have disappeared.

A wider criminal probe was launched, with authorities finding several texts transmitted via the mother's device—including a resignation letter to her employer and messages to the male associate.

Law enforcement stated a significant cash transfer was also transferred to the suspect.

A senior police official told reporters on recently that a storage unit had been rented out before the mother and child went missing and a freezer had been installed within.

The male siblings took out the cooling unit from the facility on the very day the mother and daughter disappeared, she stated. And a shortly afterward, they purchased an additional appliance.

Authorities say they believe this suggests the deaths were planned in advance.

"The reason for their demise was not identifiable due to the advanced decay of the victims," she said.

Mayr—from the legal authorities—said the precise timeline is not yet known, but the bodies were expertly concealed and went unnoticed during a prior examination.

Although the men were taken into custody in June, it was not until November 12 that the suspect acknowledged an incident and to concealing the remains. He denies any plan to cause death, investigators said.

Meanwhile, his brother acknowledged a cover-up but disputed involvement in a homicide.

The pair are currently in detention before court proceedings in jails in separate locations, approximately 189 kilometers away from each other.

In a joint statement, Austria's Minister for Women and Justice Minister declared the "suspected killing of two... symbolizes the abrupt and violent termination of two human lives and uncovers a brutal scheme".

"Female individuals are being murdered due to the simple reality that they are women and girls," they went on to say.

"Murders of women are a deeply rooted and society-wide problem that we must address decisively."
