Severe Precipitation Worsen Situation for Evacuated Residents of Gaza, Agencies Caution
Persistent precipitation over the last seven days have worsened the precarious circumstances of the many hundreds of thousands of uprooted Palestinians in the territory, as reported by relief agencies.
"Horrendous" Night Brings Severe Threats
A official characterized the recent storm as "horrendous", with downpours so heavy that as much as 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the streets.
"These conditions was truly horrendous for the people. The downpours were so strong... And the gusts were so strong," said the spokesperson.
Authorities voice significant anxiety that children residing in makeshift shelters in soaked garments will fall victim to hypothermia and additional illnesses.
Fatalities and Extensive Loss
Health authorities have stated that one baby has passed away from the cold and no fewer than 11 other people have died in roof cave-ins triggered by the harsh conditions.
Other reports indicate a greater number of casualties. Officials said that several structures had collapsed completely and dozens had sustained partial collapse.

Aid Distribution Deemed Insufficient
Groups have increased distribution of tents, bedding and clothes following the halt in hostilities began, but they have said there is continues to be not enough aid reaching those in need.
"Agencies are operating tirelessly to provide that relief and to distribute it, but the magnitude of the needs is so enormous that we continue to see a great number of individuals and children who are truly suffering nightly," cautioned one official.
Future Concerns and Ceasefire Terms
The second phase of the agreement encompasses proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with post-war governance, the removal of troops, and other terms.
Relief groups have underscored the necessity for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to meet immediate and ongoing requirements."
The hostilities was initiated by an attack in late 2023. Subsequent actions have resulted in a high number of fatalities in the area, based on health ministry reports.
