Iran Reports Assault on American Facility in Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any impact is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a several projectiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
