Fast bowler Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Worries.

'Serious blow' for England after Atkinson leaves the field with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson further complicated England's injury problems upon exiting the field on the second morning of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler felt a problem in his left hamstring post-delivery that he bowled during the morning session.

Team management reported Atkinson felt some "soreness" and would spend time on the sidelines to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The concluding match in this Ashes battle in Sydney begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have previously lost key quicks Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming early in the series, managing only three wickets.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs while batting being one of only three England players to get into double digits.

Following a brief spell late on the first day, he returned for the second day's play and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Unfortunately, at the end of the fifth over, he delivered a slower ball to Travis Head and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the Melbourne match after being left out the previous Test.
