Democrats Condemn Trump After He States They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party voiced outrage after the ex-president charged a coalition of Democratic congress members of being "turncoats" and stated they should be detained and sentenced "with execution" following their publication of a controversial video.

The Message That Provoked the Dispute

The recorded message, released on Tuesday, features six Democratic elected officials who previously acted in armed forces or intelligence roles.

"As we did, you all took an oath to protect and uphold this national charter," the officials stated in the brief video. "At present, the dangers to our democratic foundation are not only from overseas, but from right here at home. Our laws are explicit, you can refuse improper directives, you can reject improper directives, you should decline unlawful commands. No one has to follow commands that contravene the law or our constitution."

The Former President's Furious Reply

The clip reportedly provoke a angry response from the ex-president.

On later in the week, Trump published on Truth Social: "This represents SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another publication, he declared: "This constitutes really bad, and Risky to our United States. Their words cannot be allowed to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional message, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Officials Respond

Following Trump's comments on that day, Top Democrats issued a combined announcement denouncing the remarks.

"Political violence has no position in the United States," they stated. "Representatives who participated in the video all acted our United States with tremendous patriotism and excellence. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's offensive and risky calls for execution against congressional representatives, and call on House Republicans to strongly do the same."

The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in communication with law enforcement "to ensure the safety of these officials and their families."

"Donald Trump must without delay delete these radical online messages and retract his aggressive rhetoric before he gets someone killed," the statement stated.

Representatives' Strong Response

The representatives who were featured in the video also published a statement.

"We identify as former service members and security experts who care for this nation and swore an oath to safeguard and uphold the constitution of the United States," they stated. "That oath is permanent, and we plan to maintain it. No warning, pressure, or incitement will deter us from that important obligation."

"The most revealing aspect is that the ex-president views it subject to penalty by capital punishment for us to restate the statutes," they added. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their support as they execute their vow to the constitution and duty to follow only legal commands. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our obligation."

They continued: "Every American must come together and censure the president's demands for our execution and partisan aggression. This is a time for ethical certainty."

More Governmental Reactions

The Senate Democratic leader also censured Trump's comments and published on online networks: "We must be absolutely clear: the former president is requesting the death of elected officials."

He added: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. All senators, every Representative, all citizens – regardless of party – should censure this without delay and unconditionally."

The Conservative official justified Trump's claim that the Democrats had engaged in "treason", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", adding: "It is very risky, you have leading members of the government advising troops to disobey orders, I think that is without precedent in US history."

The Republican leader also reportedly stated to journalists that in what he examined of Trump's publications, Trump was "explaining the violation of sedition" but that "attorneys have to examine the language and establish all that."

Administration Statement

During a White House press conference on that day, when questioned by a reporter, "Does the president want to kill members of Congress?", the White House press secretary answered: "No."

"Let's be clear about what the former president is reacting to," the spokesperson stated. "You have active officials of the federal government who coordinated to arrange a video message to individuals of the American armed forces, to current military personnel advising them to defy the executive's lawful orders."

She added: "The purity of our military depends on the command structure, and if that structure is violated, it can cause people getting killed, it can lead to confusion, and that is exactly what these congressional representatives ... are basically supporting."
